Brief history of COLOS

Core Logging School (COLOS) is an educational initiative organized by the Polish Geological Society in cooperation with the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics, and Environmental Protection of the AGH University of Krakow, the Institute of Geological Sciences, and the Institute of Mineral Resources and Energy Management of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The first edition took place on September 15–18, 2024, at the European Center for Geological Education in Chęciny and at the Central Core Repository in Chmielnik (made available courtesy of ORLEN S.A. – Central Branch of Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo) and ended with great organizational and substantive success.

The high interest among geologists from both Poland and abroad led to the decision to make the initiative a regular event. The second edition of COLOS took place on September 14–18, 2025 again in Chęciny and Chmielnik, while the third edition is planned for September 13–17, 2026, at the Drill Core Archive in Leszcze (made available courtesy of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute).
